Welcome to the world of OLD-TIME music! Let it seep in your soul!

What is OLD-TIME music?

OLD-TIME music is primarily string-band music - played on instruments such as the fiddle, banjo, bass, mandolin, autoharp, guitar, and dulcimer - that was played for dances in the Appalachians around the 1920's.

OLD-TIME music is the archtypical American music form, being an amalgamation of styles brought here by immigrants.  Much of the repertoir is based on tunes that came over with the Scotch and Irish settlers.  Some OLD-TIME music standards are traceable back to the British Isles where they have been well known for centuries.  The genre of OLD-TIME music as a whole took on its own flavor as it met other influences, particularly the Blues.

OLD-TIME music is not Blue Grass!  OLD-TIME music predates Blue Grass and is its direct predecessor.  The line between these two forms of American music is blurry with many shared tunes between them.  However there are militant camps of supporters for each style of music that holds the other in little regard.
